Virtual PREX Machinima Scenario Description
Name of scenario
Lesson introduction
Overview of the
scenario
(ie. a brief overview of the way the scenario plays out)
The students are initially
lined up outside the classroom. The scene then changes to show the students
seated at their desks. The teacher obtains the students' attention and then
provides a verbal introduction to the lesson.
Type of lesson and
part of the lesson being role-played
Stage 3 Mathematics - Probability
- Introduction to the lesson
In the lesson students
take it in turns to role a set of dice and each record the total of the
two dice after each role and continue until there have been 40 rolls of the
dice. In a later lesson students will use the data collected to calculate
percentages, produce graphs and to make inferences about whether some values
and/or combinations are more likely to be rolled than others. The main body of
the lesson won't be acted out – only the introduction to the lesson will
be included in this scenario, and the conclusion to the lesson will be acted
out as part of another scenario.
Teaching
Strategies Demonstrated
Number of avatar controllers and avatars and
main role of each
(Include information about whether some roles can or would ideally be
performed by somebody carrying out multiple roles on multiple computers.
Possibly a table showing avatar controllers and the avatars they will control.
Mention number of cameras and control requirements, ie. number
of people needed for this).

Equipment needed
(Number of computers, headsets etc)
11
computers (one teacher and 10 students) are needed. It will be necessary for
some computers to be close to each other to allow one person to control more
than one Student Avatar.
Three
headset will be needed, one for teacher and one for each of the two students
who talk (Gina and Jake).
Environment and
layout
(Include any special environment tools or features)
Use
of one of the role-play classrooms (the same classroom and avatars will be used
for this scenario and the corresponding lesson conclusion scenario).
Initial positioning
Students
in two lines outside the classroom. One student (Christine) standing out of line.
